I am all about food trends and trying new things. However, one trend I cannot get with is overnight oats. I love just about anything you can make ahead and store in a mason jar except these. I like my oatmeal the old fashioned way, hot (and made in the microwave lol). It’s starting to get very hot in Florida, like 90’s everyday hot. But that won’t stop me from enjoying oatmeal for breakfast this week. For me, oatmeal is a year round comfort food. If you’re interested in overnight oats, check out these 50 Overnight Oats Recipes and enjoy. But if you’re an old fashioned oatmeal lover like me, follow the steps below to morning greatness:
- Follow package instructions for microwave or stove top (use old fashioned oats & substitute almond/skim/soy milk for water)
- Top with your favorite fresh fruit (this week it’s blueberries & banana)
- Sprinkle a protein packed topping (chia seeds or slivered almonds)
- Drizzle with honey, agave, or add sweetener (totally optional, fruit is probably enough)
I NEVER miss breakfast. I also try to eat within 30 minutes of rising for the day. These healthy habits jump start my metabolism and keep my stomach full for hours before my first snack each day. Whether you’re making it overnight or popping it in the microwave each morning, don’t skip breakfast. Nothing is more important.
